What is the OCIA?

  • OCIA stands for Order of Christian Initiation of Adults


  • The process established by the Church for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist).


  • These individuals are welcomed as fully initiated Catholics on Holy Saturday during the Easter Vigil.

Who is OCIA for?

  • Persons in need of Baptism above the age of 7 years.


  • Persons baptized in another Christian tradition who desire to become Catholic.


  • Persons baptized Catholic in need of First Communion and Confirmation.

Steps of Christian Initiation

  • Period of Evangelization and Precatechumenate


  • Period of the Catechumenate


  • Period of Purification and Enlightenment


  • Period of the Post-Baptismal Catechesis
